Consulting

Consulting is a term that covers a lot of ground. It can represent any combination of the services listed below, plus any other advice appropriate to the situation. Sometimes companies have an idea of what they want to accomplish, but no idea of how to get it done, or what the payback period will be. We can act as a sounding board to help you develop a sound, workable technology solution, or tell you why a technology solution might not be the best way.

KIS has worked on projects for clients of all types and sizes. Client profiles include:

Small-to-Medium size companies that:

  • need help in establishing control and audit procedures;

  • need to automate a specific application;

  • need a totally integrated networking solution;

  • need to correct a past computer mistake;

  • still have manual processes that are making them less competitive;

Departments of Larger companies that need projects done quicker and more cost effectively than their own I.T. departments can provide.

Services

  • Hardware specification and acquisition.

KIS does not sell hardware. By maintaining independence from computer and peripheral manufacturers, we have no vested interest in selling you a particular brand of equipment. We will analyze your existing equipment for future suitability and make recommendations based on your needs, not what a vendor is pushing this month.

  • Network design and implementation.

KIS does not sell Network operating systems. We have experience with Novell Netware, Windows 95/98, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and growing into LINUX. Very likely, part of your solution will be a network. We can help you choose and implement the appropriate network operating system for your environment.

  • Database design and implementation.

This is a very significant part of your solution. It involves determining what data elements are important to you, how they will be stored and how they will be accessed. The design phase will provide current solutions, but must be flexible enough to move to the future as your business needs grow.

  • Legacy system migration

This is a fancy name for conversion of your existing systems. If you have substantial time and money into a system that essentially works well for you, but needs to move to another platform or you want to upgrade it to a GUI interface (modernize it for Windows), we can help with the decision to convert the old or rewrite a new system, convert and test the code, or write a new system for you.

  • Application Development

Our broad-based knowledge of many industries and ability to find existing software solutions provides the best of both worlds. If there are solutions for your business already out there at a reasonable cost, we will tell you about them and arrange demos. If your business is unique or you want the control of having software designed specifically for your business, we have the skills and expertise to provide custom programming solutions.

  • Computer Facilities Management

We can be your data processing department. There are plenty of systems available that proclaim "No expertise needed" or "Easy Administration". It is our experience that these claims are not necessarily true. Smooth, continuous operations are a by-product of planning, monitoring and maintenance. If you are a small business with a network, you are dependent on the data flowing through that network. Your expertise is growing and running your business. One of our expertise is to insure that the system continues to operate and minimize emergencies. If you don't have computer professionals on staff, we can provide complete system administration, backup, performance and capacity monitoring.

  • Client Web Site interaction

A fast growing part of our business involves the World Wide Web. It  is becoming more important than ever to have a web presence. Your customers expect you to have an e-mail address for each of your employees and a web site. Anyone can provide web design and hosting for a web presence, but when you want to start doing business over the web (i.e. your clients placing orders, checking order status, etc.), it will be important to seamlessly integrate your network database applications with your web site.
